Julie Upton, MS, RD, CSSD
Julie Upton is a registered dietitian and communications expert specializing in nutrition, fitness and health. As a former New York City-based national spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, Julie is interviewed in hundreds of magazine articles and is a frequent guest on national and local television and radio stations. She has appeared on the NBC Today Show, CBS Evening News, ABC World News Tonight, CNN Headline News, and Fox
News Fox & Friends. She has also appeared on MTV, Access Hollywood, E! Entertainment News and Extra to
provide expert commentary on Hollywood nutrition trends.
When
Julie is not being interviewed herself, she is often
interviewing someone for one of her articles. As a
nationally recognized journalist, Julie has written over 1000 articles
for national newspapers and magazines including, The
New York Times, Prevention, Women’s Health, Shape, Fitness,
Redbook, RollingStone, US Weekly and Parents. Her
articles cover nutrition, fitness and health as well
as active travel and profiles of professional and
Olympic athletes. She has been a contributing editor
for Parents and Bicycling magazines and held
staff positions at Hearst magazines and Conde Nast.
Julie has authored
several professional book chapters, co-authored nutrition
research and has just completed her first sports nutrition
book, Energy to Burn: The Ultimate Food and Nutrition Guide
to Fuel Your Active Life, co-authored by Jenna
Bell-Wilson, Ph.D., RD.
Julie
also provides a wide variety of services as a marketing
communications consultant to several clients, including
multinational food companies as well as commodity boards.
She helps develop strategic platforms and tactical
execution for consumers and health care professional
public relations programs.
As a sports fanatic, Julie
keeps in shape by training for her next event. She
is a competitive swimmer, runner, triathlete and cyclist. She
has completed many ultra-endurance events including
the Swim Around Manhattan Island, New York City Marathon,
The Boston Marathon and the Hawaii Ironman World Championships.
Julie
attended the University of Michigan and received a
Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition from Michigan
State University. She completed her dietetic internship
at Harvard Medical School and holds a Master of Science
Degree in Nutrition Communications from Boston University. |
